REVIEW: Wiltshire Wild Sauna

Hidden away in the countryside at Park Farm Campsite, Wiltshire Wild Sauna offers something refreshingly simple: a chance to switch off, warm up and reconnect with nature. Surrounded by the rolling Wiltshire views, this outdoor sauna experience feels worlds away from busy schedules and glowing phone screens.

Stepping Into Nature

A short walk from the campsite leads you to the sauna’s own area, where a rustic wood-fired sauna, cold plunge tub and shower, and an open shelter for changing create a cosy, back-to-nature set-up.

From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels calm and welcoming, with breathtaking views across the surrounding fields, setting the scene for a truly relaxing experience.

Inside the Wood-Fired Sauna

We began the experience by stepping inside the traditional wood-fired, Nordic-style, barrel sauna, heated to around 80°C. Perfect for sinking into the warmth and letting the outside world melt away. We were advised to spend 15 minutes inside before stepping out for a cold-water plunge or a refreshing outdoor shower, embracing the invigorating contrast of hot and cold therapy.

Throughout our time in the sauna, Laura and Zoë replenished the wood in the stove to maintain the perfect sauna temperature. When inside, you feel truly at piece. The combination of the heat, beautiful views of the countryside and quiet makes for a nice escape.

What enhances this experience further is the use essential oils infused into handcrafted ice balls, which slowly melt over the hot sauna stones. As they dissolve, they release bursts of fragrant steam that fill the sauna with calming, spa-like aromas.

A cold plunge

Stepping outside between sessions is all part of the experience, and Wiltshire Wild Sauna has thoughtfully created several ways to cool down and reset. We enjoyed a refreshing outdoor shower, perfect for rinsing off and awakening the senses after a deep sauna heat. There is also a cold plunge tub, inviting the more adventurous to fully embrace the hot–cold contrast that is central to authentic sauna culture. Even though we were new to the experience of a cold plunge, we felt brilliant afterwards.

After our session, we were kindly given a mug of Mint Tea and relaxed in the open shelter. There is also an opportunity to warm up around the fire pit and make use of the campsite’s showers and facilities. With the countryside stretching out in every direction, it’s easy to lose track of time and simply enjoy the calm.

A Passion Project in the Countryside

What really makes Wiltshire Wild Sauna special, though, is its ethos. Founded by sauna enthusiast Laura and Zoë, the project began in 2024 as a passion-driven venture built with the help of friends and family. It has quickly grown into a small but thriving community centred around wellbeing, connection and time outdoors, proving that sometimes the simplest ideas are the most powerful.

Final thoughts

Whether you’re a seasoned sauna-goer or trying it for the first time, Wiltshire Wild Sauna offers a beautifully grounded experience. It’s wellness without the fuss, just wood-fired heat, open skies and the restorative rhythm of nature.

If you’re looking for a moment to pause, breathe and reset, this little corner of north Wiltshire might be exactly what you need.
