REVIEW: A Memorable Stay at the King’s Head, Cirencester

There’s something special about arriving somewhere that instantly feels welcoming, and that’s exactly the feeling we had when we stepped through the doors of the King’s Head Hotel. Located right in the heart of Cirencester, this historic coaching inn combines Cotswold charm with stylish modern touches, making it the perfect setting for a relaxed stay.

During our visit, we enjoyed an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s feature bedrooms, attended a George Michael tribute night and sampled dishes from the new spring menu; making for a memorable experience from start to finish.

Gorgeous Interiors with Cotswold Charm

From the moment you enter, the hotel’s interiors make a lasting impression. Beautiful, exposed Cotswold stone walls, elegant lighting and cosy seating areas create a space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. There are also plenty of inviting corners where you can settle in with a drink and soak up the atmosphere, giving the hotel a relaxed yet refined feel.

A Comfortable Stay in a feature bedroom at Kings Head

Our stay in one of the hotel’s feature bedrooms was a real highlight. The room was spacious, beautifully styled and thoughtfully designed to blend the building’s historic charm with modern luxury.

With plenty of room to unwind, a large comfortable bed and elegant décor, the suite offered the perfect place to relax after an evening of food and entertainment. The attention to detail, spacious bathroom, and generous amenities throughout the room made the stay feel extra special and added to the sense of a true Cotswold getaway.

A Taste of the New Spring Menu

Before the evening’s entertainment began, we had the chance to try some dishes from the hotel’s new spring menu.

To start, we selected the Thai Green Curry Bites and Crispy Salt & Pepper Squid. The Thai Green Curry Bites delivered a delicious balance of fragrant spice and creamy flavour, while the Crispy Salt & Pepper Squid was perfectly cooked with a light, crisp coating and just the right amount of seasoning.

For mains, we opted for the Chargrilled Marinated Skewers and the Wagyu Beef Burger. The skewers were tender, smoky and full of flavour from the marinade, sat on a bed of beetroot hummus, mixed baby leaf salad and cucumber ribbons. The Wagyu burger was rich and indulgent, served with all the classic accompaniments and a beautifully juicy patty. Each dish was well presented, making it clear that the kitchen places real emphasis on quality ingredients and bold flavours.

The menu celebrates seasonal ingredients with a modern British twist, offering comforting classics alongside lighter, fresh flavours perfect for the time of year. It was the ideal way to start the evening and a great showcase of the hotel’s food offering.

A Fantastic George Michael Tribute Night

The highlight of the evening was the George Michael tribute performance, held in the hotel’s impressive Vaulted Cellar. With its exposed stone arches and atmospheric lighting, the space provides a unique and intimate setting for live events.

As the music began, the room quickly filled with energy, with guests ready to sing along to some of the most iconic pop hits. The performer captured the sound and spirit of the legendary George Michael brilliantly, delivering hit after hit that had the whole crowd clapping, singing and dancing along.

The cellar’s historic character added something really special to the evening, creating a lively yet intimate atmosphere that made the whole event feel even more memorable.

A Brilliant Experience in the Heart of the Cotswolds

Our stay at the King’s Head was a wonderful reminder of how special a great hospitality experience can be. With gorgeous interiors, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, brilliant entertainment and a comfortable feature bedroom to relax in afterwards, it delivered on every level.

Whether you’re planning a weekend escape, a special celebration or simply looking for a lively night out paired with a stylish place to stay, the King’s Head in Cirencester is well worth a visit. It’s a venue that perfectly combines historic charm with modern hospitality.
