Major New Leisure Club Proposed for Chippenham
A significant new fitness and leisure development could soon be coming to Chippenham, as plans are submitted for a state-of-the-art health club designed to serve the growing local community.
Leading operator David Lloyd Leisure has partnered with Baylis Estates to propose a major new facility at Southpoint Business Park, located just off the A350.
A Major Investment in Chippenham’s Leisure Scene
If approved, the development would bring a premium health, fitness and racquets club to the area, representing a substantial investment in both local infrastructure and wellbeing.
The site itself is already emerging as a key business hub, with Siemens Mobility currently constructing a £100 million facility nearby. The addition of a large-scale leisure destination would further strengthen the area’s appeal for both businesses and residents.
What Facilities Are Planned?
The proposed David Lloyd club in Chippenham is designed to cater to all ages and fitness levels, with an impressive range of indoor and outdoor facilities.
Highlights of the plans include:
- Indoor and outdoor swimming pools
- Three outdoor tennis courts within an air dome structure
- Three covered padel courts
- A large gym with up to 140 workout stations
- Two sports halls and four fitness studios
- An outdoor multi-use court and “battle box” training zone
In addition to its fitness offering, the club would also focus heavily on wellbeing and lifestyle, with plans for:
- A spa and outdoor spa garden
- Lounge areas, including a business hub and terrace
- A dedicated children’s soft play area
This mix of fitness, relaxation and family-friendly features reflects the growing demand for all-in-one leisure destinations across Wiltshire.
Jobs and Economic Boost for Wiltshire
The proposed development is expected to deliver a strong economic boost to the local area. Planning documents suggest the club could contribute around £2.7 million annually to the economy, while also creating between 80 and 100 permanent jobs.
During the construction phase, an additional 50 jobs are expected to be supported, providing further benefit to the region.
Strong Local Support
Initial consultation feedback indicates strong backing for the project, with local stakeholders highlighting the need for enhanced leisure and fitness facilities in Chippenham. The proposal aims to meet demand from a growing population, particularly as nearby developments continue to expand.
Parking and Accessibility
To support the new facility, plans include 277 car parking spaces and 30 covered cycle spaces, ensuring accessibility for both drivers and those choosing more sustainable travel options.
