Introducing... A Proposed Zip Wire from Salisbury Cathedral’s Spire
Visitors to Salisbury Cathedral could soon be offered a much quicker way down… as plans emerge for a brand-new zip wire from the top of the spire.
The initiative, described as an “express exit experience,” aims to give visitors a more memorable way to leave after climbing the cathedral tower.
Instead of carefully making their way back down the historic steps, thrill-seekers would simply clip in… and glide across Salisbury.
According to early plans, the experience would include:
• A “gentle launch” (terms and conditions apply)
• Panoramic views of the city… if you dare to open your eyes
• Optional mid-air photo packages for those brave enough to smile
A spokesperson said:
“We’ve had feedback that the walk back down is the hardest part. This solves that problem instantly.”
Safety measures are expected to include:
• Helmets (strongly encouraged)
• A reassuring thumbs-up from staff
• And a strict “no looking down” policy
Landing points are still being discussed, though early suggestions include:
• The cathedral green
• The nearest coffee shop
• Or “wherever you end up, really”
If approved, the first riders could take off…
on April 1st.
