GCSE English and Maths results are also being celebrated at New College. The fast track results from November 2019 exams show an increase in the percentage of 9-4 grades for both subjects on 2018 results as well as a very strong performance against national figures. The proportion of New College learners achieving a grade 4 or higher in English Language in November 2019 was 47.7% per cent against national figures of 36.8 % and in Maths, the proportion of students achieving a grade 4 or higher was 39.8% per cent (against national figures of 27%).
Over recent years, the College has invested in its English and Maths provision. Initiatives include: dedicated English and Maths support, with each student having access to 4 hours per week, this offers focussed sessions and additional support; different teaching styles adopted for individual learners; there is also embedding of Maths into other subject areas cross-College and additional revision sessions.
Adam Fahey, Deputy Principal Curriculum and Quality, said:
“These brilliant results are a testament to the hard work of our students and staff. Our aim at New College is to provide all our students with the skills, knowledge and behaviours which will enable them to progress and to thrive at the next level and we are proud of the contribution we continue to make to the lives of the young people of Swindon.”
