Swindon Town sign defender Rhys Sharpe on free transfer
Swindon Town have announced the signing of defender Rhys Sharpe following a successful trial at the club.
Sharpe, who can play in central defence or on the left-hand side, has previously been at Derby County and Notts County.
He also has international pedigree at youth level as from between 2013 and 2015 the Nottingham-born defender represented Northern Ireland’s under 21s seven times.
The 22-year-old is eligible for Swindon’s EFL Trophy second round tie against Luton Town tonight (Tuesday), which kicks off at 19:45.
It is a "short-term" deal, however no date has been disclosed as yet.
Meanwhile, striker Jermaine Hylton has had his loan spell at Conference Premier outfit Guiseley terminated by his parent club.
Hylton, who scored one goal in his three games for the club, had his loan move plagued by a hamstring injury which may have been a reason for the Robins bringing him back to Wiltshire.
If fit, Hylton will be in contention to play in the Luton game at the County Ground but if he is not, there has been no indication yet on whether there will be plans to loan him out again if and when he is back to full fitness.
