Swindon Town announce return of former goalkeeper as player-coach

Swindon Town have confirmed that Lewis Ward ha re-joined the club as both their ninth summer signing and as a Youth Development Phase Lead Coach. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports on the addition.

This signing marks the end of the goalkeeper's seven-month trial period with the club which began following his departure from fellow League Two outfit Sutton United last January.

Ward acquitted himself very well in his first spell at the County Ground, making notable penalty saves against Forest Green Rovers and Manchester City before establishing himself as the number one in the final part of the season and for the club's play-off campaign.

As well as providing further competition for Murphy Mahoney, Ward will also join up with the coaches in the Swindon Town Academy to provide coaching and development to players in the club's under-14 and under-16 teams.
