Nell Praises Bullas' Emotion-Fuelled Guildford Fight

It was a busy weekend for Swindon Wildcats, who came up against Guildford Flames and Peterborough Phantoms in two goal-fuelled encounters. Tempers boiled over at the Swindon Ice Arena on Saturday, as Sam Bullas dropped gloves and faced up to Guildford's Rupert Quiney.

Following a spate of words the duo put on a spectacle for the packed arena, exchanging blows in the centre of the ice and notching up the atmosphere tenfold.

Bullas emerged victorious, sending Quiney down to the ice and leaving his opponent unable to see out the rest of the tie.

Speaking following the full time buzzer head coach Aaron Nell, who had been overseeing the clash from the sidelines while recovering from injury, praised the impact the coming together of the two players had on the tie.

"I think his (Bullas') fight kind of ran some emotion into the game and I think we needed that. The second period we struggled a bit and it was that bit of energy that we needed," said Nell.

Fighting in ice hockey is an established tradition and has a long history within the sport, in some cases able to influence the outcome of a match by swinging momentum from one team to another.

Asked about the significance of Bullas' show down with Quiney, Nell added: "It was a massive part of the game and I think they (Guildford) had just scored so it was great of Bully to fight there, fighting a big lad.

"I think the other guy got hurt, but it was a big part of the game," he said.
