Swindon Town looking at loan market to bolster injury-hit squad

Manager Ian Holloway insisted Swindon Town would have to be active in the loan market as they look to bolster their injury-hit squad ahead of the start of their League Two campaign.

Fletcher Holman and Gavin Kilkenny are now the latest to be ruled out for Town, the latter set for around five months ont he sidelines with a broken ankle.

And Holloway insists the club would be doing their upmost to get bodies in the door before their league opener at Northampton on Saturday 15^th August.

Asked about recruitment, he said: "The ones who were out of contract, the best ones will definitely have gone now.

"There are people pending who might be allowed out (on loan), and it is probably the loan market that we are looking at, if I am being brutally honest.

He added: “Somehow, we have got to try to find some other money.

"What we did at this time last year, we might have to do that again, so we are going to have to look at it.

"Clem (Morfuni, owner) wants us to be uber-competitive, and I am not complaining about his support for me in any way, shape, or form and I never will.

"I have never been supported as well as I have been at this place, and I am sure that he will do that again.

"I haven't asked him yet, but my staff are looking for things, because he will want us to know where we are."

Swindon Town rounded off their pre-season fixture schedule with a 4-1 win at Forest Green on Saturday. Paul Glatzel netted a brace as well as goals for Aaron Drinan and Ben Middlemas.

Their competitive schedule starts with a Carabao Cup first-round game at Cardiff on Saturday.
