Holloway full of pride as Swindon Town progress in EFL Trophy
Boss Ian Holloway insisted he was proud of the entirety of Swindon Town after they booked their place in the last 16 of the EFL Trophy.
Ollie Clarke’s late winner gave Holloway’s side a 1-0 victory over holders Peterborough United at the Nigel Eady County Ground.
The goal prevented the visitors in their bid for a third straight trophy this season, with Town sealing victory against higher-level opposition.
Speaking post-match, Holloway said: "I really enjoyed the game, and the crowd made a difference. It can be a little disappointing in this competition, but it sounded like there were a lot of them.
"Both teams tried to win because we didn't want to go into penalties, and I'm glad we did.
"I have to say that the roar that went up for the goal, that was so pleasing for me.
"This was probably my happiest win, if I'm being brutally honest, I thought it was really important to see if we can get to the next level. Could we take on that team was that club has won it twice in a row?
"Last year we went out and it was bitterly disappointing for me. We played ever so well against Birmingham, who lost in the final the competition to Peterborough.
"I'm very proud of my boys there, I'm very proud of my club, and I am very proud of the energy that was in the crowd. It was wonderful.”
Next up for Town is a return to FA Cup action, when they host Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
