Palmer to the rescue as Holloway hails 'solid' display at Newport
Boss Ian Holloway hailed a “solid” display from his Swindon Town side after taking three points on the road at Newport County.
Striker Ollie Palmer netted his second goal in as many games as Town made it seven wins in eight games in all competitions with a 1-0 triumph.
Former Wrexham striker Palmer was not planned to start the contest at Rodney Parade but an injury to Aaron Drinan meant he was thrust in from the beginning – finding what proved to be the winner after just 10 minutes.
Speaking post-match, Holloway said: "It couldn't have been worse with losing Drinan, but what a joy that I had Ollie Palmer on the bench, so obviously, I put him in and he scored in a couple of minutes. That shows what I know.
"That is the luxury that I have got at the moment, to use people and get them to work together.
"As you can see, we need all different types in different games, so I was delighted to get the three points.
"That was all that mattered, because the pressure was on us, because we are not playing next week, so we really needed a result, we didn't necessarily need the performance, but I was pleased with that.
"I am really pleased, and the lads in there are buzzing. I am just all-around pleased as we were very solid and got back-to-back clean sheets. What more could I ask for? That was the thing I had been banging on about."
Victory sees Town remain second in League Two, one point behind leaders Walsall.
Swindon Town’s scheduled fixture against Notts County next weekend has been postponed due to international call-ups in the visitors’ squad.
