Holloway labels performance as "garbage" as Swindon Town draw with Grimsby
Manager Ian Holloway described as “garbage” Swindon Town’s 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town, as his team threw away a two-goal advantage.
Town struck twice in the opening 13 minutes at the Nigel Eady County Ground, though Ollie Palmer and Billy Bodin.
But back came the visitors with goals from Kieran Green and a Danny Rose penalty to level the scores at the interval.
And with the second half deadlocked, Holloway pulled no punches during his post-match assessment.
He said: "The second half was so much better, but we wasted 45 minutes being awful.
"Why were we taking so long at the back? Why are we not pressing their goalie? Why aren't we running? Why aren't we doing what I believe makes us a good team?
"Maybe they don't know what that is yet, but that was boring, that was awful, and that was garbage, in my opinion.
"We have to run, we have to chase, we have to press. That front line did not do it, and the midfield did not do it.
"I can understand how the fans felt. We were 2-0 up, and nobody was making a sound, because I was bored.
"We weren't pressing and we weren't closing and I don't get it, because we knew how good they were.
"You have got to run, and I don't think we ran enough."
The point left town second in the League Two table, with 31 points from 17 games played. They are one adrift of leaders Walsall.
Next up for Holloway’s side is a trip to sixth-placed Chesterfield on Saturday (3pm).
