Holloway praises 'wonderful' display as Swindon Town reach top five

Boss Ian Holloway hailed a “wonderful performance” as his Swindon Town side thumped previous league leaders Crewe 3-0 away from home.

Goals from Gavin Kilkenny, Paul Glatzel (pictured) and Aaron Drinan set the tone for Town’s impressive display at Mornflake Stadium.

New signing Ollie Palmer, who penned a two-year deal after joining from Wrexham on Friday, also played the final 29 minutes as Town moved into fifth spot in League Two.

Reflecting on the performance, manager Hollway said: "What can I say? That was a wonderful performance from a group of people that I did not know could do it so quickly after the training sessions we had.

"Ollie Palmer only got on the bus yesterday in Walsall, so I am delighted to have this array of talent, and it looks like the weaknesses have been plugged and cured.

"We have got a long way to go to be the team that I want, but to see it that quickly with the level of pressing and closing down and understanding, and then passing and moving away at a team that were top of the table before.

"I was hoping that we could do that, from what I saw in training, I knew that we could do that, but I am absolutely delighted that we did.

"It was an excellent performance from our fans over there to our team on the pitch, I am just so pleased with everybody."

Town have accumulated 12 points from their opening six games, with four wins and two defeats.

Next up for Holloway’s side is an EFL Trophy home game against Reading on Tuesday (7pm).
