Holloway sees positives despite Swindon Town’s Carabao Cup exit.

Boss Ian Holloway insisted he saw some positive signs from his Swindon Town squad, despite them bowing out of the EFL Cup 3-2 at Cardiff City.

An own goal from Cardiff’s Gabriel Osho put Swindon into a shock lead at Cardiff City Stadium, before the Bluebirds hit back to be ahead at half-time via a Yousef Salech brace.

Former Liverpool man Paul Glatzel restored party for Town just before the hour mark, but Jack Moylan found a winner for the hosts 12 minutes from time.

Town had substitute James Debayo sent off on his debut late on, but Holloway remained positive after the defeat.

He said: "There were some really good performances from people and I am bitterly disappointed that we've ended up losing 3-2, because we did hit the post.

"I think it was a lot closer than they thought it would be, but I'm disappointed we haven't got something.

"They had almost the same squad from last year and I had eight new players, so it is always going to take us some time.

"I think that we have got some ingredients, and we are getting better and better.

"I'm delighted with everybody in every way, apart from the fact that we lost, and sometimes you lose in the style that you want, and you can take it.

“If they're going to play like that from me, I'll have that every day of the week."

Swindon Town’s League Two opener comes at Northampton on Saturday (3pm).
