Gunning takes assistant manager role in Swindon Town staff reshuffle
Swindon Town have announced coach Gavin Gunning has been promoted to the role of assistant manager at the club.
The 35-year-old replaces Marcus Bignot as Ian Holloway’s number two, having worked in his backroom staff last season.
He makes the step up having been part of the coaching staff at the Nigel Eady County Ground since July 2022, working under various managers as well as stepping up as interim boss.
Following Gunning’s promotion, David Carney has been named as first-team coach, having originally joined the club in December 2025 as international pathways manager, as well as the academy’s recruitment and loans manager.
Aristotelis Pavlidis has also joined Swindon as the club’s new physiotherapist, having previously spent two seasons at Portsmouth.
CEO Anthony Hall, said: “It’s been a really busy period behind the scenes at the club as we prepare for what is hopefully an exciting season ahead.
“On the club front, we’ve made a number of new additions to the team, and I feel we are already beginning to see a positive impact from those changes.
“In terms of the club itself, it’s not just been personnel changes, we’ve also been busy working on several off-the-field developments to help enhance our supporters' matchday experience.
“We look forward to sharing more details on those developments with you in due course, but for now I hope you all enjoy your summer, and I look forward to seeing you back at The Nigel Eady County Ground very soon.”
