Holloway: Drinan gives defenders a nightmare

Boss Ian Holloway insisted frontman Aaron Drinan “gives defenders a nightmare” after the Irishman was crowned League Two Player of the Month for September.

The Cork-born striker netted five times and registered one assist throughout the month, playing a key role in taking Town into the top two in the division.

He is currently the league’s top scorer, with eight goals in 10 games.

And manager Holloway insisted the former Ipswich Town and Leyton Orient man has set the tone for the rest of the squad.

He told the club website: “Aaron’s been fantastic for us, not just with his goals, but with everything he brings to the team.

“He sets the tone with his work ethic, presses from the front, and gives defenders a nightmare every week.

“He’s had to step up with Harry Smith out injured, and he’s done exactly that. I’m absolutely delighted for him; he deserves this recognition.”

On claiming the award, Drinan added: “I’m really proud to win this. The gaffer’s put a lot of belief in me, and I’ve just tried to repay that by working hard and taking my chances.

“The lads have been brilliant too — I wouldn’t be scoring without the service they give me. Hopefully, we can keep this run going and stay up near the top."

Town are next in action when they make the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, October 18 (3pm).
