Defender Tom Broadbent signs for Swindon Town

SWINDON TOWN made their second signing of the week as defender Tom Broadbent joined on a two-year deal from Bristol Rovers earlier today.

Making the switch from Bristol to Swindon for an undisclosed fee, Broadbent joins the Robins looking to fill the gap in defence for Town after Sid Nelson returned to Millwall following the end of his loan spell at SN1.

A latecomer to professional football, Broadbent signed his first professional contract whilst on the books of Bristol Rovers in July last year after serving six years in the army that included a tour of Afghanistan with the Royal Artillery.

Speaking to the clubs official website following the move, Broadbent said:

“I’m happy to be honest – I just can’t wait to get playing. It’s a lovely ground and a big club and it should be in a higher league.

“We’re not far off the playoffs so hopefully we can have a good second half of the season and challenge.”

The transfer is subject to EFL and FA approval meaning Broadbent is unlikely to feature in Swindon’s away match against Tranmere Rovers this weekend.
