The NSBRC Guide to Heating & Sustainability

A one-day course on energy efficiency, heating systems and renewable technologies for self-build and renovation projects, led by independent consultant Rob Bohm.

A specialist one-day training course focused on creating comfortable, sustainable and cost-effective homes.

The NSBRC Guide to Heating & Sustainability is the specialist third-day programme from the NSBRC Self Build & Renovation Course, offered as a standalone one-day session. It is designed for those planning a self-build, renovating a property, or wanting to understand modern heating and renewable technologies.

Delivered by Independent Heating & Energy Consultant Rob Bohm, the course provides independent guidance on building performance, energy efficiency, heating systems and renewables, helping attendees make informed choices and avoid costly mistakes.

What the course covers:

• Energy fundamentals: incentives and drivers for technologies (solar, battery storage, heat pumps), comparative fuel costs, payback calculations, and relevant standards (e.g. Passivhaus, SAP)
• Design, planning & management: optimising building elements to maximise performance
• Heating options: selecting appropriate systems for a home
