Exciting Plans Unveiled for New Wichelstowe Sports Hub in Swindon

Plans have been submitted for a brand-new community sports facility in Wichelstowe, Swindon, following valuable feedback from hundreds of local residents earlier this year.

The proposed Wichelstowe Community Sports Hub will be located between Middle and East Wichel and aims to provide a welcoming space for people of all ages to get active, whether through organised sport or more relaxed recreation such as walking and social activities.

Developed by Swindon Borough Council, the project has been shaped by two rounds of public consultation that highlighted a strong local interest in football, alongside demand for other sports and family-friendly facilities. As a result, the latest designs include multi-use games areas, children’s play zones, and landscaped open spaces.

A key feature of the plans is a modern pavilion building, designed to host a café, flexible community rooms, and changing facilities. The development will also include areas for pétanque and walking routes that connect to Wichelstowe’s scenic canals.

Funding for the new sports hub will come from Section 106 money, made by the Wichelstowe developers to support local infrastructure and community projects, with additional grants being sought to enhance the facilities even further.

The Wiltshire FA has been identified as the preferred operator, bringing its expertise in sports development and community engagement to help make the hub a thriving centre for local activity. The project has been supported by Wroughton Parish Council, which has worked closely with the borough council to develop the plans.

If planning approval is granted, construction could begin as early as next year, marking a major milestone for sport and wellbeing in Swindon.
