Celebrate the end of the summer holidays with a Day at the Wharf

Families can celebrate the end of the summer holidays with a day filled with fun and activities in the town centre.

A Day at the Wharf is taking place on the green space at Wharf Green on Saturday, 29 August, between 10am and 4pm, and will see a variety of free activities for children and families.

Live music performances will be held on a dedicated stage with support from Swindon 105.5, alongside arts and craft activities being hosted by Artsite, Museum & Art Swindon and the Creation Station. Swindon Open Studios is also hosting some children’s reading sessions.

And, back by popular demand, is The Bubble Master. The children’s entertainer was a smash hit at last year’s Summer at the Green events and is returning with his bubble magic between 11am and 2.30pm. Free fencing taster sessions will also be on offer from Swindon Fencing Club along with some fun lawn games for all alongside a competition for the Swindon Junior Town Cryer, which is being held at midday.

A number of local charities and community groups will also have stalls showcasing what they offer and how people can get involved.

Councillor Matthew Vallender, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Planning and Regeneration, said: “When it comes to the end of the summer holidays, we know children may be dreading the return to school (and parents may be running out of ways to entertain their kids) so why not come and have a last dance at Wharf Green?

“A Day at the Wharf will be a fun-filled day to mark the end of the holidays and I’m really pleased we’re able to put something like this on for free.

“So if you’re in the area, or if you’re just looking for something to do, come on down and take part.”

Day at the Wharf activities and events are subject to change based on the weather and any other unforeseen circumstances. The day is free to attend and no booking is necessary, but food outlets may be available at an additional cost.
