The Arc Chippenham Review: Indoor Climbing Fun for Kids & Families in Wiltshire
If you’re looking for a slightly different kind of indoor activity for kids in Chippenham - something active but not over-stimulating - The Arc is a brilliant option.

Combining bouldering, roped climbing and a welcoming café space, The Arc in Chippenham offers a calmer, more mindful alternative to traditional indoor play centres, while still delivering plenty of fun and challenge for the whole family.
A Warm Welcome & Fantastic Staff
From the moment we arrived, the team made a huge impression.
Daniel and the team were absolutely lovely with the kids - helping them get fitted into their climbing shoes and harnesses, patiently explaining how everything worked, and giving us a proper tour of the facilities so we felt confident before we started.
That kind of welcome makes such a difference, especially if you’re new to indoor climbing in Wiltshire.
Indoor Climbing in Chippenham for All Abilities
The Arc offers a mix of:
- Bouldering (low-level climbing without ropes)
- Roped climbing walls
- Smaller climbing walls ideal for younger climbers
It’s accessible for beginners but still engaging enough to feel like a real challenge. The walls are brilliantly designed to encourage problem solving - children (and adults!) have to think about their route, plan their next move and use both strength and concentration.
What I really loved is that this is an activity you genuinely do together.
We found ourselves giggling as we raced each other to the top, then enjoying that satisfying bounce back down.
It’s active, but in a focused, purposeful way - not chaotic or overwhelming.
A Calmer Alternative to Traditional Indoor Activities
Compared to many other indoor activities for kids in Wiltshire, The Arc feels different.
It’s energetic without being noisy. Stimulating without being over-stimulating.
Fun while still being brilliant for both mind and body.
Climbing encourages problem-solving, coordination, resilience and confidence - all while feeling like an adventure. It’s the kind of activity that leaves children feeling proud of themselves.
And as a parent, it’s just a really nice place to be.
A Fantastic Café with a Cool Vibe
The café space deserves a mention of its own.
It has a genuinely cool, relaxed vibe - more independent coffee shop than sports centre café. Great coffee, good food options and plenty of space to sit and soak up the atmosphere.
Whether you’re climbing or simply accompanying someone who is, it’s a space you’ll happily spend time in.
Plenty of Onsite Parking
Another bonus: lots of onsite parking. It makes arriving easy and stress-free - especially helpful if you’re bringing children or planning to stay for a couple of hours.
Flexible Options: Pay As You Go, Memberships & Courses
The Arc Chippenham offers flexible pay-as-you-go sessions, as well as membership options for regular climbers. They also run courses for both adults and children, making it a fantastic place to build skills over time.
If you’re local to Chippenham or elsewhere in Wiltshire and looking for an activity that grows with your child, this is a strong option.
