Holloway happy with pre-season plans as Swindon Town set to head to Spain
Boss Ian Holloway said how the chance to take his Swindon Town squad overseas in pre-season was a “a great opportunity”.
Town have announced they will fly out to Alicante, Spain, on the July 6 before spending five days training in the heat.
They will also play a friendly during the camp, with the club set to reveal further details in due course.
Holloway’s side finished ninth in League Two last season, missing out on a place in the play-offs on the final day of the campaign.
And the manager believes a pre-season trip provides them the platform to go one better in 2026/27.
He told he club website: “Following the disappointment of the way last season ended, this trip to Spain gives us a great opportunity to start the new season on a real high.
“Taking the team on a trip like this will certainly help us build a positive team spirit, which I believe can only help us carry the group further up the table throughout the duration of next season.
“It’s a fantastic gesture from the club to allow me to take the group away, and I’m really thankful we’ve got this opportunity to boost the group’s morale heading into the new season.”
Town did however confirm the trip meant they had cancelled their pre-season friendly at Woking, scheduled for July 21, in order to “help better manage the players’ physical load over pre-season”.
