Holloway happy for Alston as he hopes to bring through youngsters

Boss Ian Holloway described as a “wonderful kid” Swindon Town midfielder George Alston after he gave him his EFL debut on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who played in the group stage of the EFL Trophy last season, came off the bench as Town played out a 0-0 draw with MK Dons at the Nigel Eady County Ground on Saturday.

And Holloway insisted giving Alston his first Football League appearance was hopefully a sign of a promising pathway for youth development at the club.

"I am lucky to have little George, he did a wonderful thing,” said the Swindon Town manager.

"It is all about him growing and working and making sure that he gets the shirt off of a senior player who I am going to bring in, who will try and help him.

"He is a wonderful kid, and I am really looking forward to setting the pathway up, I will be taking the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday.

"They will have a chance with me if they have the right attitude and he has certainly got that.

"This is a good club to come to if you are a young man, because you are going to get a chance, the manager will leave a space for you if you can earn it.

"Our youth department has given me so many young people with wonderful attitudes."

The draw with the Dons meant Town finished 12th in the League Two table, with 62 points from 46 games.
