Council to Offer Free Park and Ride Service to Help Tackle Congestion

A free park and ride service will this weekend run from Wroughton Park and Ride to Kemble Drive in a bid to minimise congestion around the Outlet Village.

This weekend, the Great Western Brick Show will come to the STEAM Museum, and it promises to be an extremely popular event.

As a result, highways officers at Swindon Borough Council expect a significant volume of traffic to pass through Rodbourne.

To help alleviate congestion, the Council has decided to run a free park and ride service from the Wroughton Park and Ride site, situated off Croft Road and Pipers Way, to the Outlet Centre on Kemble Drive.

The first service will depart from Wroughton Park and Ride at 9am on Saturday (6 Oct) and Sunday (7 Oct) and will arrive at STEAM at 9:15am. It will then depart from STEAM at 9:20am, arriving back in Wroughton at 9:35am.

The service will then set off from Wroughton at 20 minute intervals throughout the day (except at 11am, 12noon, 1pm and 3pm when there will be a 40 minute interval) until 6:40pm, when it makes its last trip to Kemble Drive.

On Sunday, the service will set off from Wroughton at 20 minute intervals from 9am until 6:40pm, except at 12noon and 4pm when there will be an interval of one hour.

Councillor Gary Sumner, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, said: “We expect the Brick Show to be a hugely popular event and we have put this measure in place to ensure congestion is kept to an absolute minimum.

“We are aware of the traffic problems that occur in Rodbourne when events are held at the STEAM Museum and this Council is committed to finding solutions that work for everyone.

“I would fully encourage people to use the park and ride service as it is free and will get you there in no time at all.”
