Swindon Town's Lawrence Vigouroux says "time slows down" for him sometimes

Swindon Town's number one goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux joked he has time travel to thank for some of his saves after the Robins' 1-1 draw against Southend on Tuesday night.

Vigouroux made a string of key saves to keep Town level as Southend pushed for a late leveller that would have consigned Swindon to their third straight away defeat.

The stopper thinks he has "played better than that (but) it was satisfying, more importantly, that they got the draw.

"It (Roots Hall) is a tough place to come, they (Southend) are on a good run here and I'm really happy for the boys, they've dug in well and, like I say,  I'm really happy."

When Swindon signed the keeper that had been on loan the previous season for £400,000 this summer eyebrows were raised, but now fans are desperate for the 23-year-old to remain at the County Ground after interest from Championship clubs Newcastle United and Norwich City.

He is solely focused on duties in Wiltshire currently though and believes in the side that has regularly had its mental stability questioned by supporters and coaching staff alike.

"It shows that we have got a lot of character," he said.

"I think a lot of people questioned our character and I think today we have shown, at a really hard place to go, that we can dig deep at hard places like these and we can get a point. Maybe in the future we can get three points at places like these.

"Overall I am really pleased for the boys and we go again on Saturday against Bradford."

None of his saves from Tuesday night particularly stand out for the Chile-born stopper - "it was just like a blur" but his hazy recollection is forgivable considering that, according to him, time slows down for the ex-Liverpool man.

"I think time slows down for me for some reason. It (an Anthony Wordsworth header) came quite quickly but I saw it come off his head and I had time to readjust my body and, yeah it is a bit of instinct, but overall I was just really happy to keep it out the back of the net and if it goes in I do not think we get a point."

Much of Vigouroux's game at Swindon relies on him being able to play from the back, aligning to the club's philosophy of possession-based football, so his role in Town's goal that started from his own area pleased him.

"It was a typical Swindon goal I think, in terms of we played out from the back and luckily I got the ball to Conor (Thomas) to turn and then he played the ball into Jon (Obika) and Jonny put it in the back of the net which he does best.

"If I can help the team in that way as well it is always a bonus but first and foremost I've got to keep the ball out of the back of the net."
