Swindon Wildcats Match Report 04/12/12
Sheffield Steeldogs 0 - 5 Swindon Wildcats
Last Tuesday evening the Swindon Wildcats displayed one of the sides' performances of the season, after dominating the Sheffield Steeldogs on away ice.
The 'Cats were quick to land their foot of the night's action and within forty seconds, were to take the lead through a Lee Richardson pin point shot.
With only two minutes gone Swindon then doubled their lead, this time with forward Aaron Nell collecting on a rebound effort after fellow team mate Matias Perkkio provided the initial chance.
A tightly contested period from here soon led to into a second and within minutes of the restart, the travelling side then added a third in succession.
With a good move to steal the puck, 'Cat import Jonas Hoog wouldd see himself in on net and with a simple shot, find the top corner past netminder James Flavell.
A disciplined Swindon side then went about taking the game into its final period with what was a healthy lead and some dominant play.
The opening of the third held some good chances for both sides and although both would come close to netting, the game would continue to hold it's 0-3 scoreline. This was however broken in the forty seventh minute when previous scorer Nell would be fed the puck unmarked in on goal. A simple wristshot would find the net for a defining fourth and even bigger blow to the home side.
A deterred Steeldogs side would then see the game all out of reach after an initial Tomas Fojtik shot for the 'Cats would create yet another chance on goal. Although not directly making its way through a screen of bodies, the puck would eventually land to a poised Matias Perkkio as his shot would find the net for a fifth and final time.
A fairly physical final few minutes would bring the game to an end and rightfully earn the Swindon Wildcats a two point away win. A solid 60 minute performance see's the 'Cats climb to seventh in the table and now look toward this coming Saturday as the next home fixture awaits.
