MATCH REPORT: Swindon U18s 3-2 AFC Sudbury U18s (AET) (FA Youth Cup)

A brace from Scott Twine and one from Chris Frimpong earned Swindon Under 18s a 3-2 win at the County Ground in the FA Youth Cup.

Town needed exta time to overcome Sudbury, after they twice went behind against the Suffolk-based outfit,

Callum Watson broke the deadlock with ten minutes played when he slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Swindon hit back on the 20-minute mark through defender Christopher Frimpong, Watson regained the lead with 25 minutes left and Scott Twine brought the scores level again six minutes from time to send the match into extra time.

Twine then tapped home the winner in the first period of the extra 30 minutes.

The Robins went 1-0 down in regulation time, but started the brighter.

Young looked set-to-score just two minutes in when he broke free of the Sudbury defence, but he could not stay composed and saw his shot go just wide.

Soon after that miss was punished by Watson's first goal but Town were on the attack again - a Twine low cross from the left found Young in space who should have scored however his first touch was too heavy, Sudbury recovered and cleared for a corner.

Despair turned to delight seconds later though as the resulting corner ended in the ball in the back of the net for 1-1. The cross found Twine after two Town players dummied over the ball; the shot hit the bar but Frimpong was on hand to head home the rebound.

The rest of the first half only saw half chances - Young and Twine both saw efforts go wide although it was visitors who came closest via a deflected shot that seemed to be looping in, until Swindon stopper Archie Matthews tipped it over the bar.

Sudbury striker Watson did manage to beat Matthews again - in the 64th minute with a shot from the edge of the area that hit the underside of the bar and in for 2-1.

Twine saved Swindon's skin in the 84th minute with an accurate effort into the bottom corner to force the game into extra time.

He would then be the hero - as he finished off a great passing move with the goal gaping in the 100th minute,

Swindon will play Queens Park Rangers at home in the next round, with the tie to be played in January.
