A brace from Hallam Hope consigned Swindon to back-to-back defeats in the league for the first time this season, despite Jon Obika's second-half strike.
Following the final whistle, Williams said his players had "been in a coma" for the first half.
"We got exactly what we deserved," Williams admitted.
"We did not batter them in any way. They just sat back and protected their lead and we done very little about it.
"If you start the game of football in a coma then don't be surprised when you come out of your coma, you're losing because we start slow, no tempo to our passing, the reaction very slow and we played straight passes that left players vulnerable to be tackled very easily.
"If you want to play football without any risk at all without taking any chances at all we certainly need a different group of players and I don't think it suits that squad that we have got.
"We can accept it at times but it is dopey to come in as a midfield player, a very talented player as well, to come in very dopey and not look around over your shoulder, to play a soft pass so casual is unfortunate but I will accept a mistake, it is the performance that led to the mistake."
