'They are hungry for this' - Holloway happy with squad's pre-season work
Boss Ian Holloway insisted “there is lots to do” for Swindon Town to be ready for the start of the League Two campaign, but stressed he could see the hunger in his players.
The 62-year-old was speaking after Town sealed a 4-0 victory at Melksham Town in their second pre-season fixture, thanks to goals from Tom Nichols, Jake Tabor (2) and Will Wright.
And Holloway, in his first pre-season at the helm with Swindon, insisted he was pleased with where his group were at.
He said: “There is lots to do, shape-wise, structure-wise, and in understanding, but we are going to try and iron out any problems that we have got.
“I was really pleased defensively, as a unit, we are starting to look really good and getting some relationships going again.
“There is no such thing as a friendly, you have to be ready to win your challenges, you have to accept that they are going to challenge you, and you have to do things of a higher level to prove that you are better than them.
“We are going to, hopefully, move forward from this. It was great to see the people here, I hope they enjoyed it, and there were some really good individual performances.
“As a group, I will have to dissect it and work on an awful lot with only 20 days left, but the lads are sticking together, and they are hungry for this.
“I have a lot to do, but I am really looking forward to it. I am really pleased with everybody.”
Town are set to face Reading in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, before heading to Chippenham Town on Saturday.
