ON-THE-WHISTLE MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town 1-0 Wycombe (EFL Trophy)
Matt Preston scored an 88th-minute header to get Swindon a win in their EFL Trophy match against Wycombe.
Centre-back Preston guided home a fantastic Donal McDermott free-kick to earn Town maximum points in their second group stage match.
Aside from the goal, the on-pitch action was few and far between as Swindon named somewhat of an experimental line-up in their second game of this competition.
Reice Charles-Cook carried on in goal and Lawrence Vigouroux was not named in the squad for the second match running, despite his four-match ban now being over.
Kyle Knoyle made his Swindon debut at right-back and Ellis Iandolo, who is normally a centre attacking midfielder, was deployed at left-back.
Timi Elsnik got his first start since his return from injury while Kaiyne Woolery started up front in place of Harry Smith.
It took 22 minutes for the first shot on goal to occur, but Paul Mullin side-footed a free-kick down the throat of Wycombe's back-up goalkeeper, Yves Ma-Kalambay.
Five minutes later, Paris Cowan-Hall had the visitors' best opportunity when he struck just wide from inside the box.
That was just about all that happened in the first half, although the second was a minor improvement.
Woolery had a really good opening five minutes after the restart but, when one-on-one with the keeper, he scewed his effort well wide and out for goal kick when he had defenders breathing down his neck.
Cowan-Hall had another go for Wycombe soon after, but his long-range effort was easily claimed by Charles-Cook while Eberechi Eze curled well wide from just outside the box.
Derby loanee Kellan Gordon had a good opportunity too, but his shot from the edge of the box sailed over and Harry Smith, who came on for Mullin, just before the hour, drilled just past the far post.
Swindon almost broke the deadlock earlier as, with 10 minutes left, Johnny Goddard's shot was deflected just wide and, from the resulting corner, Anderson hit an overhead kick over the bar from about three yards.
Donal McDermott also saw an impressive free-kick tipped over the bar by Ma-Kalambay before Smith shot straight at him from an angle.
