Local Charity Helps Unemployed Youths Complete Prince’s Trust Programme

Local youth charity, Inner Flame recently helped a group of unemployed young people from in and around Swindon complete the Prince’s Trust Programme.

During the 12-week programme, participants chose 3 community projects to get involved with, these included re-decorating offices for The Samaritans and Inner Flame, spending a week with the members at The Open Door Centre for adults with learning disabilities and undertaking work placements to help them further their careers. 

The course also included a residential week in West Wales, featuring an abseil down a 120-foot dam. 

As well as valuable experience, the programme also supplies participants with a Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills, which Inner Flame delivers in partnership with Swindon College.

Sharon Sullivan, Team Leader with Inner Flame commented: “Out of 15 starters, we expect 13 or 14 to achieve the full qualification, which is a remarkable result. The programme is a big commitment for young people, and it can help change their lives” said Sharon. One participant was unable to complete the whole programme because he was successful in finding work (although he returned to finish the qualification)

The course concluded with a presentation to over 50 invited guests. Paddy Bradley, Head of Commissioning for Economy and Attainment, was on hand to present completion certificates to all the participants, and the event was also supported by Justin Tomlinson MP.
