Three Successful Years Helping Change Lives in Kenya

This month marks three years of Younite Outreach Project, an organisation which helps underprivileged children in Kenya.

It has been an incredible three years; seeing the development of two schools in Kenya and over one hundred people from the UK taking part in this life changing experience.

In just three years Younite has provided Melon Mission and Silver Bells School in Kenya with educational training, resources and health and social care. They have had teachers, students, nurses, social workers, retired people, sport coaches, private sector workers and police officers take part in their trips.

Carla Hitch went on the Easter trip to Kenya, she said: “YOP provided me with the most life affirming experience of my life. Introducing me to new experiences and a level of poverty I had never witnessed. An emotional roller coaster, with laughter, tears for the children's situations at time and love at all times!”

Both schools are now able to provide support to even more children knowing that they have a constant flow of food, water and the space to help teach and raise these children.

Fiona Simpson, Director of Younite Outreach Project said: “We couldn’t be prouder of what Younite has achieved in such a short space of time. Not only are we seeing big changes in our partner schools, we are seeing changes in our volunteers who come back with a new outlook on life. That is what YOP is all about ‘enabling life changing opportunities’ both for the people that take part in our trips but also the children and staff at Melon Mission and Silver Bells. Thank you to everyone that has helped make the last three years so successful. Whilst it has been hard work and at times challenging, the reward is always greater and we are ready for another three successful years.”

Some of the highlights over the past three years include a constant flow of food for both projects every few months, fences and gates to improve security at both schools, water tanks, a new ‘Teach the Teacher’ trip and a new classroom to help a further forty children attend school.

Younite are also pleased to welcome another Director to Younite Outreach Project, James Phipps. James has a passion for helping people especially young people in his local community. Younite Outreach Project Caught James’s eye when he could see the direct impact they were making to those less fortunate abroad but also the difference it is making to people in his local community, Swindon.
