The 42-year-old, who ran the University of Bath foundation degree in Sports Therapy at Swindon College for nine years, will be leading her own accredited Level 3 Massage Therapy and Level 4 Sports and Remedial Massage diploma in Swindon over two weeks in February and March.
She said: “These courses are certified by the Federation of Holistic Therapists and are aimed at anyone with an interest in sports, health and fitness who wants to be self-employed to fit around family or caring commitments or who wants a career change. They may even be just leaving college and wanting to enter the industry and gain an advantage. The Level 4 course can also help someone already working in the sector to upskill.”
Dawn is well known in the South West as a leading trainer in sports massage and sports therapy. Her credentials are impressive. She has a Master’s degree in Sports and Health Sciences, a post graduate certificate in further and higher education, has lectured in sports science and therapy for over ten years and was the programme leader for the foundation degree in sports therapy for the University of Bath – based in Swindon. She was also, previously, a lecturer in sports science at the City of Bath College and now tutors part time for the Open University.
Today she runs her courses from Jury’s Inn, Swindon throughout the year for small groups of individuals who wish to work in the sector and improve their skills. Anyone qualified at Level 3 can secure the insurance required to work as a professional sports massage therapist. Dawn also believes in giving back to her community so her first course for 2018 will also include a donation to the Prospect Hospice.
“Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by cancer”, Dawn said. “I believe as a small business owner, particularly someone who works in the health and fitness space, it’s good to give back a little and this year I plan to do that. This is one small way – every person who books on my course will see a donation to my chosen charity.”
The price of the courses start at £997. The level 3 course runs between Monday February 5 to Friday February 10 inclusive and the Level 4 between Monday March 12 and March 17 inclusive. To find out more visit www.coreelements.uk.com/sport-massage.
