Swindon Theatres to Support Fledgling Children's Charity
As part of a new community outreach program, Swindon Theatres are teaming up with local charity, Wiltshire Treehouse, to aid with fundraising and facilities support.
The fledgling charity, which supports bereaved children and young people in Swindon and the surrounding area, do not receive government support and to run a full service need to raise around £30,000 a year.
In order to help Treehouse raise this amount and keep the much needed service free for families, Swindon Theatres will arrange fundraising opportunities as well as providing activities for the charity’s young users such as free tickets to shows, meet and greet opportunities with visiting stars and facilities for workshops and other events.
A parent of children under 18 dies every 22 minutes in the UK and 92% of children will experience the death of someone important to them before they are 16. Bereavement can be a traumatic experience for all involved and so Treehouse work to make the grieving journey easier and prevent some of the problems that can affect people later in life. The collaboration with Swindon Theatres aims to create new experiences for the young people and their families, enabling them to make new memories whilst still cherishing thoughts from the past.
Charity representative, Rebecca King said “We are thrilled to be working with Swindon Theatres, it will be an exciting opportunity to use the medium of the Arts to help our children and young people express themselves, supporting them through their grieving process”.
Wiltshire Treehouse have also been shortlisted to become the Stratton Sainsburys’ Charity of the Year. A vote will take place in store and online from 13 – 26 June. Please join us in supporting this worthy cause by casting your vote!
