David Flitcroft knows it is up to him to lift the group at Swindon Town

Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft knows that he is the man that needs to improve the club's fortunes following a recent drop in form.

Saturday's 5-2 defeat at Stevenage in the second round of the FA Cup condemned Swindon to their third loss on the trot in all competitions, following back-to-back league failings against Newport and Grimsby.

Swindon went 2-0 down against Stevenage but came back with two goals from set-pieces to make the cup tie winnable again, but conceded a third on the stroke of half-time and let the game slip away in the second half.

Pre-season expectations of an immediate return to League One have dampened somewhat as Town are now eighth in League Two, one point outside a play-off place and five points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

"In the last three games we've got beat, I'm learning about this team and about the players," Flitcroft said.

"It's up to me now to lift the group and get some solidity in the team and start winning some games."

Swindon are back in action tomorrow (Tuesday) when they host Forest Green Rovers in the first knockout match of the EFL Trophy.

Forest Green had slightly better fortunes in the FA Cup over the weekend as they played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the New Lawn against Exeter.

Mark Cooper's men are experiencing mixed form at the moment with a draw, a defeat and a win coming in their last three league matches.

"We've got to recover and move onto next week," Flitcroft continued.
