Your Total Guide To Business

Bowman House (Business Sponsor)

Is Your Business Eligible for Funding to Employ a Young Person?

The government has unveiled a new wage Incentive scheme which pays employers up to £2275 for each young person that they employ.

Any unemployed 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for 6 months or longer are eligible to take part in the scheme.

Wage incentives are available to private, voluntary and community sectors and social enterprise employers. Central government departments are however excluded.

The Jobcentre Plus will be able to provide you with further information and support when identifying the right person for your vacancy.

Only businesses who take on a young person for more than 16 hours per week in a role that lasts more than 26 weeks are able to participate in the scheme.

Depending on the amount of hours worked one of two rates will be awarded to the employer:

1) £1,137.50 - For part-time work between 16 and 29 hours a week.

2) £2,275 - For full-time work of 30 hours or more a week.

If your business has already identified someone that they wish to recruit then they should contact the young person’s Jobcentre adviser.
